Oyster Bay
Sculpture garden/Market/Aquarium
Oyster Bay is pleased to announce the opening of its summer/fall sculpture show, timed to coincide with the opening of the SLCC. Hosting over 20 SL-generated sculptures from some of Second Life’s finest artisans, this show will bring to light the latest in artistic developments in prim design (including sculpted prims), texture and surface management and scripting. Projected artists include Cheen Pitney, Sabine Stonebender, Sunn Thunders, and Breeze Winnfield. Many, many more will also be on display.
In addition, the SLCC will feature the climax of Oyster Bay’s partnership exhibit with the Crescent Moon Museum, “Hidden Starax.” Since mid-July, Oyster Bay has featured classic Starax Statosky sculpture pieces from private collections – pieces that are not widely available for viewing in Second Life. Considered one of SL’s preeminent artists, Starax left Second Life in 2006 but left behind a legacy of intricate, innovative, beautiful (and sometimes funny!) sculptures. On display during SLCC will be “King Kong,” “Angel and Devil” and “Goliath.”
Opened in January 2007, Oyster Bay focuses its effort as a cultural space that focuses nearly exclusively on artwork generated using Second Life as the medium – sculpture and SL photography. Through the signature sculpture garden and the new Second Arts Photography gallery, as well as its artistic market stores (often mini-galleries to themselves), Oyster Bay has cemented itself as one of Second Life’s top places to view and purchase art. It was voted the second most popular art venue in Second Life in the 2007 Corsa Guide competition.
